Miami Cosmetic Dentist Explains Sedation Dentistry

Dental News, Practice News 7 Comments »

Miami Cosmetic Dentist Explains Sedation Dentistry dental newsNearly 30% of Americans are afraid of visiting the dentist and even will put up with pain or discomfort to avoid dental visits. However, for those people, there is another way: sedation dentistry.  It can also be called oral sedation dentistry, anxiety-free dentistry,  and relaxation dentistry.

Available for both general and cosmetic dentistry, sedation dentistry can be used for procedures from simple cleanings and root canals to complete smile makeovers. At a dental visit you and your dentist will agree on the needed treatment. The dentist will give you a prescription for a drug such as Valium, Ativan, or Sonata.

“Most of the drugs have been available for years and all are safe to use,” says one of Miami’s best sedation dentists, Dr. Kenneth Anenberg, cosmetic dentist from Smile South Florida. “Some of the prescriptions last longer than others, so the amount of time necessary for your treatment will help determine what kind of medicine you will receive.  Be sure to tell the dentist about other drugs you are taking and details of your medical condition.”

The day of the procedure, you will take your medicine before the appointment – how far in advance will be determined by how long your treatment will take. You will need a companion to drive you to and from your appointment. When the dentist starts the procedure, you will feel relaxed and, possibly, drowsy, points out Anenberg, a Miami sedation dentist.  Most patients don’t sleep deeply unless they’ve been administered general anesthesia, which most dentists don’t provide.

Some dentists provide Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) instead of or in addition to prescription medicine.  In use for more than 100 years, Nitrous Oxide is particularly good to combine with other sedation dentistry medicines since it provides pain relief and has some anti-anxiety properties.

Fort Lauderdale Cosmetic Dentists Offer Revolutionary Sports Appliance

Dental News, Practice News 3 Comments »

Fort Lauderdale Cosmetic Dentists Offer Revolutionary Sports Appliance dental newsMiami and Fort Lauderdale cosmetic dentist Dr. George Kolos and his team at Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry have recently started offering the Makkar PPM sports appliance, a mouth guard which is specially fitted to each user and has been proven to enhance sports performance. Invented by Dr. Anil Makkar, each appliance is custom-designed and manufactured for each individual. The device aligns the athlete’s head, neck and spine improving balance, range of motion, flexibility, endurance, and oxygen flow during athletic activities.

The appliance works on the principle that the muscles of the face, jaw and neck should be aligned to be most efficient and restful. Most people do not have that alignment naturally and the result can be headaches, neck strain, and cracked teeth.  The benefits that users experience are the result of a more efficient neuromusculature, and enhanced oxygen flow through an increased airway. Most athletes see improvement in their performance immediately.

Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry Announces the “Straight Teeth for Summer” Invisalign Special

Practice News, Special Events Comments Off

Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry is offering a limited time summer Invisalign special to both new and current patients.

Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry Announces the “Straight Teeth for Summer” Invisalign Special practice newsMany patients want to have the benefits of a beautiful straight smile, but do not want to be inconvenienced with wearing unsightly metal braces for several years. This is where the Invisalign method can make a difference. Invisalign is an alternative to traditional braces, where the patient uses a series of clear aligners that are custom molded to fit the patient’s teeth. The aligners are gradually repositioned over time to adjust the smile and give the desired result.

In contrast to traditional braces that are permanently fixed into the mouth during treatment, Invisalign braces are removable during eating and to brush the teeth. Heather, Marketing & Guest Services Coordinator for the South Florida Dentist, and current Invisalign patient said, “I wanted to have straight teeth for my upcoming wedding, but there was no way that I would be caught wearing metal braces for several years. This is my chance to have straight teeth in a short amount of time without anyone knowing that I am even wearing braces.

Smile South Florida Get Festive for Halloween

Dentistry, Practice News Comments Off

The staff of Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry certainly knows how to enjoy themselves and have fun during the holidays.  This past Friday, October 31st, was no exception.  With some of the office staff (including the doctors) dressing up for Halloween, we had a great time.

It’s the one time of year that you can pretend to be someone or something else, without having people think that you’re nuts!  I chose to wear a Corrections Officer outfit, to match Alex, who was a prisoner in his orange jumpsuit.  Dr. Anenberg was fully decked out in a 70’s hippie-meets-disco-mullet-haired dude.  It was hilarious! (See photo below).

I am taking Dr. A to jail.

Later in the evening, we had a fun-filled party at our house with plenty of candy eating and spooky music.  Dr. Nottingham came dressed up in a medieval knight outfit, while his wife, Elisabeth was a cute spider.  Xochilt and Jason made an appearance as well!

It was a great night and we will definitely do it again next year!  Happy Halloween to all from Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry!!

Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry Breaks Into the Wedding Industry health beautyThere are so many great ideas out there just waiting to be discovered -so much unchartered territory in the marketing world-that all you really need to do is just get creative, think outside of the box, and be ready to get “unbrideled.”

Great ideas can come out of necessity, so I guess that is where my trip began. I am newly engaged to be married next year (2009), and I work as a marketing & guest services coordinator for an upscale cosmetic dental office in south Florida-Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry. The first step began as I have always has crooked lower teeth, and could not imagine smiling in my wedding photos with these crooked snaggleteeth. I started looking into my options, and am in the process of getting Invisalign done to correct the crookedness and overlapping. Prior to my wedding I will also be getting ZOOM! whitening treatment done to make sure that my teeth are as pearly white as they can be.

Dentistry and the Current Economy

Dental News, Practice News Comments Off

Many of us have been affected by the latest news with our economy.

Because I work in dentistry, I was concerned as to how this current situation affects the Dental field.  In the past economic times many people prolonged dental treatment for reasons such as fear, work schedules and more.

Now with the current economic situation we should all be more proactive with our dental care.  Many of us still have jobs that offer dental insurance.  We must take advantage of this benefit.  I find that a lot of patients unknowingly waste their yearly benefits.  I imagine that this is due to work conflicts and such. If we are all pulling together in these tough economic times, one way is to utilize these dental benefits.
