Dentistry and the Current Economy

Dental News, Practice News No Comments »

Many of us have been affected by the latest news with our economy.

Because I work in dentistry, I was concerned as to how this current situation affects the Dental field.  In the past economic times many people prolonged dental treatment for reasons such as fear, work schedules and more.

Now with the current economic situation we should all be more proactive with our dental care.  Many of us still have jobs that offer dental insurance.  We must take advantage of this benefit.  I find that a lot of patients unknowingly waste their yearly benefits.  I imagine that this is due to work conflicts and such. If we are all pulling together in these tough economic times, one way is to utilize these dental benefits.

Oral Cancer, why are people not testing?

I have been working for Smile South Florida for over thirty years.  Every day we ask patients to have oral cancer screening.  I am often amazed to see many patients decline this inexpensive procedure.

This oral cancer screening test takes minutes.  It is a swish of a liquid and invaluable.

Choosing the Best Cosmetic Dentist

Dental Experience 1 Comment »

There are several ways to choose a dentist, but how do choose the best cosmetic dentist?

Sometimes insurance companies list dentists. Sometimes neighbors and relatives. Well I’m here to tell you that you must look carefully at your neighbor’s and families teeth. If they are Denture-minded or Mr. Or Mrs. Cheapskate, take it for what it’s worth. Pretty yellow page ads, and such are just that.

For me I know that with the Internet thriving the yellow pages has become a thing of the past. There is some danger in looking at the Internet Dentists also.

Why People Wait To See A Dentist?

Dental Experience No Comments »

I often wondered why it is that people put off dentistry. I think I now have some answers to this age old dilemma.

I have a husband who loves Dr.Nottingham and Dr. Anenberg. Somehow it is literally like pulling teeth to get him to the dentist. In his case it is always job related. I know this for a fact. Yes I do, I was there to witness this fiasco.

National Smile Month Idea

Dental Hygiene, Dental News 2 Comments »

I think it would be great to participate in National Smile Month. The handbook can be found here. The month runs from May 18 through June 17.

The ‘Brush for Health‘ tagline raises awareness of the systemic links between oral health and overall health - focusing on the relationship between gum disease and chronic health conditions such as heart disease, stroke, renal disease and diabetes.

Oral Health America is joining the British Dental Health Foundation and its global arm the International Dental Health Foundation to educate, inform and influence a global audience on the importance of good oral and overall health.

Please post comments if you any ideas with respect to this.
